"Is there a better trio in Western Europe?" - The Strad

Formed in 1997, the Kungsbacka Piano Trio has gained an enviable reputation as one of the most outstanding ensembles of its kind.  Having established its credentials early on by winning First Prize in the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, joining the Young Classical Artists Trust, the BBC Radio 3's New Generation Artists scheme and being selected as "Rising Stars" by the European Concert Halls Organisation with concert venues including New York’s Carnegie Hall, the Trio has since appeared at numerous festivals and venues worldwide.  In the United Kingdom, the Trio performs at Wigmore Hall, Bridgewater Hall, LSO St Luke's and the City of London, Cheltenham and Edinburgh International Festivals.

With a strong connection to Sweden through founder-member Malin Broman, the Kungsbacka Piano Trio regularly performs on tour throughout the country. Alongside numerous chamber music tours, the Trio has recently performed as soloists in Martinů's ‘Triple Concerto’ with the Västerås Sinfonietta, and in Beethoven’s ‘Triple Concerto’ with the Helsingborgs Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Andrew Manze.  The Kungsbacka Piano Trio has been honoured to receive the prestigious Interpret Prize from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, which was presented to them by Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden.

In between the Trio members’ busy schedules as solo, chamber and orchestral players and as teachers at institutions including Gothenburg University’s School of Music, Edsberg Institute of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Royal Academy of Music, the Trio's recent schedule has included concert tours in Germany, Spain and Switzerland as well as Sweden and the United Kingdom.  Most recently the Kungsbacka Piano Trio has performed at the Lockenhaus Festival in Austria, the BBC Proms in London, and toured Sweden and the UK, including a Music in the Round tour.  After a busy summer at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Kungsbacka Piano Trio is delighted to be returning to Wigmore Hall in the 2012-13 season, which also includes performing highlights of a debut in Bruchsal Germany, and a tour in Scotland including a BBC Radio 3 Live recording in Aberdeen and concerts in Inverness, Perth  and Dundee.

As keen supporters of new music, the Kungsbacka Piano Trio has commissioned and premièred many compositions, including works by Joe Dudell, Helen Grime and Karen Rehnqvist, whose ‘Beginning for Piano Trio’ was recorded for BIS. A busy recording schedule has seen a long and productive relationship with NAXOS.  The release of the Trio's Schubert CD for the label garnered extensive critical acclaim for a ‘performance that combines polish, freshness and inventive characterization’ (Daily Telegraph).  The subsequent project to record Mozart’s complete works for piano trio in two volumes won similar acclaim.  Alongside the recent release of Chopin’s Piano Trio No. 8, the Trio’s latest project is the recording of the complete Haydn Piano Trios, the first volume of which was declared by Geoffrey Norris to testify ‘to the ensemble’s taste and stylistic insight’ (Daily Telegraph).
As well as the extensive recording work for NAXOS, the Trio can be heard regularly on BBC Radio 3.

The Kungsbacka Piano Trio is an ensemble known for ‘the players' seamless, instinctive level of co-ordination, the way every corner was turned as a threesome, and their uncontainable delight’ (The Strad). They are an exceptional piano trio, to emerge from the UK and Sweden with a long and promising future ahead.
